Framed Beneath the Sea

For a period of time I worked a lot with mixing together different media formats, where I would take the basic structure of a photograph, for example, and then add paints, inks, other photographs, or anything that struck my fancy. The results were usually pretty good, though they strayed far from my illustrator background.

But what I got was something that I could not have created by picking up a pen and paintbrush. The symmetry and colorscape borrowed from photography gave the work a depth and structure that I likely could not have achieved otherwise.

This is a sunset photo that I flipped upside down, cropped, and put in Gimp to intensify the colors. Then I put it through a secret process, and viola! Magic.

Although the creation process is not particularly artistic, the results really are nice. It just takes a moment of looking at the artwork up close.
